Windows Sidebar Alternatives?

Windows Vista Sidebar is a bit of a resource hog. I say a bit, I left it for a few hours and it was using 100% of a core on a quad core.

Anyhow, I still want something that will show me disk usage etc on the desktop.

There was a program I used many moons ago that let you select what to be displayed in it but I cant remember the name. It was completely customisable and let you have sections of the desktop that could be clicked on to launch anything you set it as but for the life of me I cant remember what it was called. Can anyone help?

It’s a pain the Windows one is flawed as it’s got some nice widgets.
EDIT: I’m giving the Windows one another go, not using the third party CPU load widget I dwonloaded as I think that’s the one beginning to eat the CPU.
