XP Pro reinstallation

I have persuaded a work colleage that I will no longer support her hardware unless she stops using a pirate XP copy. So i now have to change it over. :frowning:

Is it possible to install a new copy of XP over an old copy, maybe as a ‘repair’ or something? so that all settings remain the same and only the ID code changes?

Also, similar issue… I have managed to install 2 copies of XP on one machine while experimenting with this, how can i get rid one one? especially as it automatically boots from the duff one that has no drivers? otherwise i’d leave is as it seems quite stable!

Safe to delete or not, you can change it to boot from either instance by default. There’s the boot.ini file (may need unhiding) in the root, which can also be accessed somewhere through My Computer.

You should be able to simply enter the new “proper” key without a re-install. If the versions are slightly different though the new key will not work. Do full backups, attempt this, if it works jump for joy as it has saved you time, if not you’ll be locked out and a re-install is needed.
