We’ve had a “no-call” list in New York for about a year now but the national list is just starting up… so if you hate those SOBs then just hop on the list and come October you should be call free.
And don’t be affraid to tell the non-profit and political callers(who are exempt from the new law) to stop calling you. They don’t like it(and some take offense to it) but if you tell them and they call back, they risk getting fined up to $11,000 per call.
Every once in a while there’s actually a good law or two passed(for the 100 or 200 bad ones  ).
I’ve heard that here in the US they are in the beginning stages of also doing this for email. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it being talked about for snail mail but now that you mention it… why the hell not?
If the email one actually gets to be law… I’m going to cream myself. (not really… well… ummm… maybe I… NO… not really)

I’m giving this ago. We get loads of ‘silent calls’. Think the system predials numbers and then allocates them to a teleslave so there is a 3 second delay before you hear the person (we have obviously hung up by then though)
