gpugrid team now 106th and rising
Let’s see if we can hit #100 before I jet off on holiday in 28 days time… ![]()
#104 and still rising!!!
Excellent!!
I’m going to have to go down a card, this little heat wave means the rig at home has got to go off. With the damn noisy PSU and the heat it produces
New Seasonic PSU time

I’m currently running a little test to see if reducing core usage from 6 to 5 cores on my 1055T reduces crunch times on GPUGRID WU’s. Problem is that this little test will need to run for a few days to see if there is any noticeable difference.
For those that don’t read the GPUGRID message board, the following has been posted -
The new application will soon make it to production.
You need to have the latest drivers to use it, because it is compiled with cuda4.2.Linux: 295.41 or greater
Windows: 301.32 or greater
I updated overnight, but it caused a little problem on my GTX460 - to start off it was only running at idle speed, then after a reboot it started running at 405Mhz… Reset to default settings and rebooted again which caused it to run @correct speed. After a bit of tweaking found the max speed it would run at was 797MHz, down from 815MHz that it was previously running at. ![]()
Looks like I’ll have to keep a close eye on it.
My other card, the GTX550Ti, has had no problem at all with the update.
When you update the driver I would recommend setting “No New Tasks” and allow your WU’s to complete. Exit BOINC, update the driver and reboot and monitor how your cards are running using MSI Afterburner or such like.
Just been running some tests with my gtX550Ti and the result of down-volting from 1.125V to 1.075 volts cuts down power consumption by about 10W whilst crunching a GPUGRID WU, and drops the temperature by about 5 degC.
Also did a test on my 1090Tand have found that by dropping it down to 3.75GHz from 3.975Ghz and the volts down to 1.45V from 1.525V cut power consumption down by about 60W… dropping down to 3.5GHz and 1.425 was about the same.
Think I’ll run my 1090T at 3.75Ghz now… seems a good compomise :D
In the search for more energy efficient crunching I am going to continue lowering CPU voltages until I lose stabilty. Currently got my 1090T running at 1.35V with the clock still at 3.75GHz and my have drooped my 1055T @ 3.5GHz down to 1.40V
Core temps are looking good as well.
Been running the 550Ti and 460 together for 4 weeks and RAC has shot up from 75K to 125K and still rising. Surprised how well the 550Ti is performing despite it being hindered by being in a 4X Slot and not a 16X.
Both cards running nice and stable with undervolted by 0.5V, although by upgrading to the latest drivers has dropped my overclock on the 460 down to 795MHz
One week until I jet off and it looks like we might just miss out.
Don’t worry I’ll be back crunching as soon as I return.
Also got plans for a wee upgrade soon after I get back.![]()
Had domed caps on my main rigs mobo, causing shutdowns. New one fitted so unit back crunching again
The dreaded capacitor cancer strikes again… I’ve been lucky in that regard, haven’t had a failure like that for quite a few years.
Lasted 6 years, so not displeased. It was only a cheap board in the first place
In the old days, when SETI Classic was on the go, I built a stack using 3 EPoX motherboards. All of them succumbed the the deadly cancer and all failed within a space of 3 months. Needless to say I never bought another EPoX motherboard again!
Quite like the Asrock mobo I have as a replacement. Good build quality & features.
Currently #101!!!
We are about 1 Million behind #100 and Ohio State University are hot on our tails
And my we’ll be losing my output whilst I jet off to the other side of the world.
In a few weeks time ill be investing in a nice GPU to get some grids done
until then my i7 will be running flat out on docking… obviously as soon as I buy it and build it
Sounds like a good idea…
Thinking of adding another GPU when I get back from holiday… funds permitting of course, and most probably a GTX 560 to run in my 1090T cruncher. :Plot:
Or I could sell the GTX460 and fund a 570. :Plot:
Or I could wait until the GTX 650 and 660 are announced/released before I make up my mind… :Plot:
Back of me hols and me cruncher is back up and running!!!
We’re still #101 but shouldn’t take too long to hit #100.
Wish I’d had some cash to spare when I was over in Thailand… GFX cards were about 20% cheaper over there, although the places I looked in didn’t have any 600 series cards yet.
