Docking@Home is Retiring

Our Docking@Home adventure is coming to an end on May 23, 2014. Join us on our next challenge at ExSciTecH.

Shame to see a project finish, but there are plenty more worthy causes to donate CPU time to. Thanks for the heads-up Greg

No! That’s devastating news :frowning:

Docking@home has easily been my favorite BOINC project to have ever been a part of :frowning:

I will now have to think about shifting my focus to other projects or if I should retire myself…

I think the project sort of ran out of steam. You and I Sheepy were always in top 20 and while that is great for us it is a poor statement of the project.
I think not staying current on the GPU/APU side also made it harder to attract people. CPU is dead and oh well like you I need to find something to suck up the system clock clicking away. Oh also sorry about the stomp the other day…oops, LOL!

sad sad sad bunny

I can see the backing behind stopping and agreed it probably does have a lot to do with the lack of GPU support… But I think that is why I enjoyed the project so much  You didnt need a super duper G-Wizz-BANG GPU to get ahead you know?

Haha I don’t mind the Stomp  Can’t compete with you GPU crews

:kickbum:

 It’s sad sad news… And we never quite achieved the top spot…

Oh well, going to switch one 1090T over to SIMAP and maybe the other over to POEM

Greetings from The Knights Who Say Ni!
As soon as I saw the news, I thought of Team Phoenix Rising. We remember your honorable Quest to become # 1 in Docking. A few years ago members of KWSN, the Three Musketeers, Seti.USA and perhaps some others shrubbed/crunched for your team for a time in support of defeating those 3rd dimension folks. That didn’t work out, but TPR is still solidly in 2nd place, very impressive. Docking has a thread to share “war stories”, perhaps you can recount some of that activity :wasted: (or let sleeping dawgz lie)…

KWSN has not shrubbed Docking much in quite a while (yee-gadz 27th place) due to reasons mentioned above and their anemic message board. Perhaps we can join TPR in crunching the heck out of whatever they have left for the rest of April. Seti.USA has already crunched a large spike.

One of my crunchers has already run out of WU’s and isn’t picking up any new ones and the other only has a day or so cached :frowning:

Well, at least I made it to 20 million.

Seems like some teams have decided to go for a big push before the project ends causing a big shortage of WU’s. I’ve managed to grab some more this morning but it could be a struggle getting WU’s up until the final distribution day on April 30th.

The announcement has also got me thinking about what to concentrate on next. Currently running 2x 1090T rigs each running 5 cores Docking with 1 core supervising GPUGRID (3 GFX cards split between 2 rigs) and then 2 AMD APU rigs running SIMAP which seem much more power efficient. I am now starting to think about updating one of my 1090T rigs to a Quad core APU system and just running GPUGRID on it… but the motherboard I have my eye on is not available in the UK yet… Oh well… I’ve got a few weeks to think about it before Docking retires.

If some team memebers would like to carry on Docking GPUGRID now have a CPU based client…

Docking gone from both machines now and Rosetta is installed as the weapon of choice, projects speaking. At least another bio project will benefit from my CPU time.

The last of my Docking units are gone as well. :frowning:

It’s a shame Mumps[MM] hasn’t rejoined TPR for the final push… his daily output over the last few days is pushing past 800K!!! We might have stood a chance of catching P3D!!!

Still managing to get enough Docking WU’s to keep both my Docking rigs going and looks like I will end up with around 20.4 Million when it comes to an end and possibly a final rank of 18th, a drop of 2 from my current rank of 16th. :frowning:

Mump[MM] is on target to stomp me before the project ends.

I moved several over that stopped getting WU’s to Rosetta. Only have I think one system with UNITS to process so the end is near for Docking.

Well it looks like one of my 1090T crunchers will end the project as #3 host with a total 9.5 million credits… it was rapidly getting closed down by a farm of Xeons belong to the top Docker (tjacobs) but he seems to have run out of work already.

Just placed an order today for an AMD A8-6500 and a Asus A88XM-Plus to update one of my 1090T and ASUS Cross-hair IV set-ups and it will become a GPUGRID only cruncher… the other 1090T will be switched to SIMAP

Sad news indeed…I wondered what was happening when I couldn’t collect work units for Docking for the last week or so…must read the forum posts more often !!! SO…if Docking is finished I’ll keep with the Bio’s and start doing Rosetta again, which is a noble cause to share time with SETI on my one steam driven machine.

Same as I did Hippy. Rosetta’s a nice project to crunch too!

Well, my bits arrived today so once the Docking units run completely dry I will be ready to perform surgery. Still managing to pick up some WU’s but it seems to be getting harder.

The good news for me is that one one Docking user “Syracuse University” that was on target to overtake me before the end must have shut down for Easter holidays… hopefully I will end up 17th.
