It would seem to me that it is the measurement that is at the base of the debate.
If you have infinite apples in a field, then you can not have 2x infinity and therefore you can not have 2 fields.
If the fastest we can travel, in a continuous line is at the speed of light, then you cannot travel 2x speed of light.
BUT, if you could move from one point to another without following a continuous line, like using stepping stones across a river, to cut a corner, then it could be said that it would have taken 2x speed of light to get there the normal way around and so your relative speed must have been >speed of light.
Likewise I shall have to read that at some point that isn’t 8:20 am
I do remember an very convincing hypothesis from “The Elegant Universe” which suggested that all bodies are moving at light speed thought the basic 4 dimensions… namely 3 of space and 1 of time. The faster we move through space the more of our velocity through time is diverted, therefore time for us slows down. So measuring a speed in m/s when the time part is slowing…
When high velocity particles travel faster than the speed of light in a medium they create a blue flash. This is called Cerenkov Radiation, why does this happen and why is it blue?
Indeed, these time-warping effects have to be taken into account in the Global Positioning System. If they weren’t, sailors, taxi drivers and cruise missiles could find themselves many kilometers off course.
I don’t know about sailors or cruise missiles but that certainly fits with the taxi drivers I know:eek:
Thanks Sir Ulli, more interesting stuff to read:thumbsup:
but my Mathematics dont underastand all
and something here
The following is a shortened and condensed summary of Ron Pearson’s new theory on the creation of the Universe. It has been written as an aid to understanding and not as a full and exact scientific explanation and readers wanting such should go on to read Ron’s own work. Details of this can be found in the literature list at the end.
PRINCETON, N.J.–First things first: Einstein has not left the building.
Despite some recent virtuosic experiments with pulses of light widely reported to far exceed the speed of light, physicists still agree that no object or information has been made to travel superluminally. Cause-and-effect is preserved. But the strange intricacies of light are requiring scientists to examine closely the nature of the ultimate speed limit and, with it, what a pulse of light really is.
If you were to travel away from a wall clock at the speed of light the image of the hand moving would never reach you, time would appear to stand still.
so if the clock we’re travelling at light speed c, and you were travelling at c, but in opposites directions, the clock would appear to be going backwards?

Hmmm interesting question but no, the image would never jhave reached you to start with and would simply cease to exist.
Wolram tries hard to follow all this, but sadly his brain is still operating at the speed of a unicycle with a wheel missing when the headache eventually fades he returns to hunting mushrooms with his water pistol
…not bad for a bloke with the same birthday as Einstein (apparently)

I love reading this stuff but too much makes my head hurt.
