Anybody heading south will be dissapointed.
Its cold and miserable here too.

Likewise :sigh:
I don’t think it’s a case of can’t be bothered. Real life has a habit of ‘getting in the way’. Lately for me personally I don’t spend a huge amount of time on here because of real life and my real life involves little free time these days, so there are times where I do little more than have a quick glance at threads.
I will admit to becoming a bit of a hermit where the net is concerned and that’s down to a lot of things, but the main one being that over the last few months I’ve had to make myself come to terms with some stuff which has been saddening for me and as a result I’ve not wanted to be on pc.
For me, just because a friend can’t keep in touch regularly it doesn’t make them any less of a friend. So while you may think things are going south on here, they’re not, everyone that you call a friend from here is still that.
It wasn’t a poke in the eye for anyone Bob, just an observation. Post counts are really low, people online really low, it appears to me we are just getting too old and too apathetic
Old ?
OLD ?
More candles on the cake is simply an opportunity for a bigger cake to put them all on and more fire.
I call that the epitome of win-win
annoyed me today = nothing, one day older, one day wiser
The weather could be classed as annoying, but heck it’s a bank holiday weekend and we should all know better by now
DT.
I think life has changed very much for everyone - I don’t think the friendships have changed but what the forum can offer and what we can offer it I think has changed so it more just casual viewing for some.
I pass by often but not much requires me to actually log in… pop by read pop off.
If your not on Facebook Martin do so… there is quite a few TPR’ers on Facebook and now you have that new Android Phone you can keep up with core people who pass by TPR without being noticed.
back to topic, what annoyed me today = FACEBOOK
damn I hate that site with a passion

See above
Great timing DT, saved me from repeating my Facebook rant…
That could have been a Mojo post DT
I know acquired taste… not really to mine either but I find it useful… would not be on it if I was not prodded by certain people at work but serves a useful purpose for me with work friends.
you mean like a phone call does? I deliberately don’t do Facebook on a regular basis, it destroys the urge to talk to someone. There’s a reason we find so many people are now rude and can’t communicate effectively or properly. We are moving to a society who only communicates in text, just look at the massive move of mobile phone contracts that now offer unlimited texts and 50minutes talk time. Completely useless to me, if I want to know something, I ask in a two minute phone call, not a 8text messages conversation.
Talk people, talk - I know it was advertising but I’m a child of a talking age
“It’s good to talk”
DT.
Sometimes phonecalls after work hours does not bode well with people’s other halves.
In a work sense …It can be nice having details in written form and stay with me rather than trying to remember a conversation. And in work there is so many flipping meetings you can never get to the person your after as there phones are on silent - peeps respond much faster to message’s.
What difference is Facebook from TPR + IRC past ???
Chatting here is no different to communicating on Facebook
To me more TPR people seem to use Facebook and are online on it than you can ever see these day’s in the TPR users Online list.
That say’s something to me… The core of TPR is so scattered now around the net now not much is drawing us here.
hay-ho to the good old day… Yes its good to talk equally its good to talk using other means not doing so causes people to drift apart I think these here forums hold the example of that.
I agree with what everyone has said, yes, I sit on the fence.
The world it is changing, hell it has changed, both the real and the virtual world of the web. I personally don’t have anywhere near the amount of machines that I once had, I have more mobile devices, less PC’s. We now have between us, a server, a media centre, 3 laptops and 2 Smartphone’s, at its peak I had 11 PC’s! The way we access the web has changed, the way we interact with people over the web has changed, the way we glean information off the web has changed. I have less PC’s for a multitude of reasons, money being one, need being the other, I can’t afford to buy and then run machines when what I want them to do is being done by one machine quite successfully. I have a ‘spare’ PC and spare laptop that I tinker with now and again, mess with Linux, or try something different, but that’s it. I know I should get rid but…
I would love to go back to how it was, sitting posting on the forums, chatting on IRC, but life rolls on, I can drop someone messages when I want to. I can post up if I have something of interest to say, but you don’t want to hear my inane ramblings about nothing in particular, if you do you’d look me up on Facebook or buzz or whatever. I don’t want to bring that type of rambling in here, it’s not the place for it.
I come here on a PC at least once a day, if not more, I check the RSS feed via my phone 3 or 4 times a day because it’s one of four or five feeds I have set up, so it’s not as if I’m not here, I just don’t have anything of interest to post.
Is there a solution to the problem, well who can tell. Is there a problem to be fixed or is it just the way things are evolving? I don’t think it’s the ‘inch thick mile wide’ problem we kinda had a few years back, I think this is evolution, it’s not dying it’s changing, we need ’ I suppose’ to find a way to change with it, get ahead of it, change with it, become a leader again. How? I have no idea.
I think I have rambled enough, I hope I haven’t painted a bleak picture, the future is out there, the future is bright, the social side of the net which we were the cutting edge off with our IRC and ‘mojo’s’ has caught up with us and has overtaken us, we just need to get ahead of it again, or at least catch up.
Oh ‘What annoyed me today?’
the realisation that nothing stays the same.
My server is down! in fact seems all of Hostgator is down.
Well I have had 100% up time for two years… guess I’ll not whine.
Some time before 6am, one of the smoke alarms decided to let out a single BEEP.
I get up, decide there is no established fire, make a donation to Thames Water and go back to bed.
Silence ensues for just long enough to nod off
BEEP
Right, lets have a closer look, lights are all green but these are 240v powered things and only get upset by power cuts or tripped RCD’s if a bulb has blown.
Lights work so the power is on
BEEP
WTF?
Right, it comes off the ceiling with a twist and lo and behold, there is a sodding battery in it, “remove mains before opening battery cover” it says.
So I unplug the power connector.
To this point, the kids were all asleep, and just fidgeting after the BEEP every few minutes, even little Eleanor, sleeping peacfully through most of each night at nine weeks.
The other. interconnected alarm, decides in a manner befitting Private Pike in a “Dont Panic Captain Mainwearing” moment to go into full bat**** wake everybody up mode the instant I pull the cable and stays beeping.
Good morning everybody.
And a very good morning to Golden Power Delux chinese batteries for expiring and getting my week off to such a good start
:kickbum:
The back door not relocking after opening it to put out the washing. Finally fixed after two hours of faffing about, but the drill/driver battery went flat so I couldn’t finish the job. Couldn’t find the charger for ages, but found it in a tool box that I cannot remember putting it in. Thought I’d cool down by surfing the NET only to find my PC had hung with a loss of loadsa crunching time.
What else can go wrong?
Oh yes and yesterday the ceiling in one of the bedrooms partially collapsed leaving a dirty mess all over the bed and a great big hole. Plasterboarded it up for now and will plaster over it later.
Someone in the flats (or someone using our car park) has hit my car and dented and scratched the rear wheel arch.
First I find out is today by looking.:furious:
8am appointment at hospital for MRI :o Good job I’m not claustrophobic!
Finding that either BOTH my makita battery packs have died in the last month or the charger has packed up.
New batteries are about £60 each and are only about 18 months old.
I was going to be building a shed tomorrow
