What annoyed me today...

The other one that makes me smile is when you go to fix the broken laptop and find its got a 120g hard drive partitioned into two, with C drive filled to the brim and struggling. Yet next to it is drive D for data (aren’t laptop company’s good for trying) that has nothing on it at all apart from a Data folder that is empty.

I’ve given up trying to get people to store data on that disk and normally delete it and stretch the C drive over, they think its some kind of miracle and windoz loves getting back its free space.

Yeah, I take a backup of my data every day (encrypted via USB to and from work - mind the passwords are in plain text on both laptop and home PC - aim is if the USB is stolen, they cant get the data off it… unless they also have the home PC or laptop which I’m hoping is rarer than just losing the USB key.)

Fed up of reinstalling programs again so I’ve stuck a load of portable apps in a Dropbox folder and I should be good to go when I need to now. Just install Logitech KB+M app, my graphics tablet drivers and Dropbox and I should be good to go now.

As much as I know I should be taking backups I fail to do it myself… Probably due to crap filing system for my pictures…

Here’s a question for photographers… how do you file your photos ? do you have a folder for ones you would consider your photography one’s ? and then one for say family and friends photos ?

Rover electrics have continued to annoy me today.

1980’s breakerless ignition and a long period standing idle do not mix.
It now sparks on occasions after meticulous cleaning of connectors and there is even power to the fuel pump.

Which would be great if the fuel pump itself hadnt decided to give up the moment the damned thing decided to fire for a few seconds.

It now has no spark, no fuel (apart from an IV feed from a coke bottle) and seems to have destroyed the ignition amplifier which is an unobtainable part.

:frowning:

Mine are in years with sub folders in that year for big events and tagged within windows photo gallery so I can find good ones. I actually do back up my photos after having lost some very important ones :sigh:

Oh I have soooooo been there. I used to move the shortcuts to the “My xxxxxxx” folders to point to the D drive but so many other bits of Windows, and other apps, do insist on using C as the default. So it’s not worth it, get rid of it, make one drive, everyone is happy. And if they are not going to back up it makes no difference whatsoever.

This is the inherent weakness of the Windows “abstract the user from reality” approach where things like drive letters are seen as too technical for the average user, which is probably correct. But I do wish if they are going to continue with this approach they would get smarter about using the available disk space and save the users from themselves. Under Linux you are given a home folder, you don’t really care where it is, all your activities default to this home folder, as a symbol not a path, so you can use all those loverly gigabytes within the filesystem without caring where all the bits of files are stored.

Completely, windows should follow linux down that road, that way the user would still remain detached from the decision but if the system builder (or tweaker) wants to move the data over to adopt a decent strategy of having data and settings on seperate drive or partition then they can and it works!

But I kind of like doing the merge partitions, run malwarebytes, Ccleaner, the 134 updates that they have ignored and then handing it back in exchange for a pint.

Oh me too, just love spending my spare time fixing other people’s feck-ups…

Uh, tell me about it.

This is why I am now such a MAC bigot! It just doesn’t happen with OS X.

Bloody rimmer brothers.

Ordering a supposedly original part and getting a pattern part that doesnt fit without a wiring modification.
A diagram of where the two wires I have should go on the three unmarked connectors on the new unit would be nice too.

Irony is, I could have bought a pattern part else where for half the price with an adaptor kit.

Grrr

/edit
Although I am impressed with getting a response by email with precise instructions within minutes of sending a query for wiring instructions.
Now all i need to do is refit the in fuel tank assembly with its new pump and modify the wiring loom.

Sounds easy, what could possibly go wrong ?

Getting a phone call from someone claiming to be from ‘Job Centre Plus’ saying I didn’t need to go in for an interview:confused:

I’ve never signed on in my life. And I’m, err… just over 50.

Never seen the inside of a Jobcentre, and I asked why I got the call, and I was told I was “On the list” That’s a good thing, right? No it isn’t. As a stroke survivor, I’m entitled to see a ‘disability job advisor’. As the caller display showed ‘withheld’ I phoned the nearest Jobcentre, and they confirmed it wasn’t in their interest or mine to talk to me.

Good news is that it’s down to me to set up work for myself. Still. Tarts.

HDNL, or the home delivery network, used by Play. Complete bunch of monkeys, delivered to my home on monday, I wasn’t in so they carded me ( I knew I wouldn’t be there but would collect from the depot)
Depot closes at 6pm, how is anyone who works supposed to get there ? Call in in my break yesterday, they can’t find it, promise to phone me back.
Phone today, Sorry for not ringing, Sorry we have lost it.

While I was there you could tell the place is run badly, people wondering about, phones ringing and ringing, everyone looked at me like I was an alien. Won’t be using Play again due to this.

HDNL up here are just as bad and unfortunately quite a few companies that we use, use them. They’ve frequently just chucked parcels over our back gate if we haven’t been in (ok, the gate is 6’ but still not happy with them doing that) and I have complained to them about it…not that it stopped them

just make sure you relay this information to play.com. if they don’t know about the crap service HDNL give they’ll continue to use them.

HDNL are complete muppets down here too :frowning:

I’ve done a google and yes, they are universally slagged off!

I have phoned and complained to Play.

oddly, I used HDNL through Parcel2Go and the receiver reported they were very happy with them. The guy who comes to my house to do the collections was excellent, happy to have an arranged pickup place hidden from view for when I’m out. Have used 5or6 times since and that has worked.

He’s moved on now though :frowning:

DT.

Second oldest becoming a compulsive liar, not just with us but at school too :sigh:

Could be a phase?

Management potential
